The Torah portion depicts a young Joshua receiving the blessing from Moses, looking upon the Promised Land, a land which Moses was forbidden to enter. A priest, to Moses' left, supplies the oil that Moses drips upon Joshua's head. The Promised Land, Israel, is in stark contrast to the barren, mountain region that they have traveled.
